Breakfast, as your mother always told you, is the most important meal of the day. And, with so many delicious — and occasionally even nutritious — breakfast options around Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, there's no reason not to treat yourself to a healthy jumpstart to your day.

Be sure to fuel up before a playing golf, tennis or pickleball, or biking or kayaking or walking on the beach — enjoying any of the countless other amenities at Palmetto Dunes. Here are a few of our resort favorites for your first — and mama says most important — meal of the day.

Big Jim''s BBQ, Burgers, Pizza and BREAKFAST

All three of our award-winning golf courses feature grill rooms where you can enjoy breakfast, most famously Big Jim's BBQ, Burgers, Pizza & Catering in the Robert Trent Jones golf course clubhouse.

Big Jim's offers a relaxed dining option for families, golfers and Hilton Head Island residents and visitors alike. If you have enough time in the morning, enjoy Big Jim's expanded outdoor seating overlooking the Jones course and big-screen TVs inside. Big Jim's is open seven days a week for breakfast — as well as lunch and dinner — starting at 7 AM.

Didn't we mention a “nutritious” breakfast? Well, that would be the Parfait at Big Jim's, a tasty vanilla yogurt, granola and berry medley. On the “delicious” side, you can also enjoy biscuits topped with bacon jam, and bagels with lox, or topped with your choice of premium smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese, red onions and cucumber; avocado toast with multigrain wheat toast and avocado purée; and our savory Lowcountry Benedict, served with choice of sous vide pork belly or local lump crab cake, scratch biscuit, sautéed spinach, poached egg & hollandaise.

'

'

Of course, you can rev things up with the Big Jim's two-egg breakfast, or try a classic breakfast sandwich or a breakfast burrito with bacon, sausage, black bean Pico de Gallo, avocado, seasonal fruit compote, hash browns — you know the drill. And if you really want to partake in some breakfast fun, build your own, scrumptious Big Jim's omelet or add fried chicken breast to your Belgian waffle — the Big Jim's options are as limitless as their coffee mugs are bottomless.

Later in the day, Big Jim's serves up their famed, signature Southern dishes, including BBQ, gourmet burgers and grilled pizza plus salads, seafood and fall-off-the-bone ribs. In addition, Big Jim''s offers a kid''s menu, wine and beer menu, take-out orders and catering, and you can enjoy Happy Hour weekdays from 4 until 7 PM.

Breakfast Options at Palmetto Dunes General Store

Just a smooth 9-iron away from Big Jim's, the Palmetto Dunes General Store is a resort centerpiece serving up hot coffee, breakfast and lunch in the heart of Palmetto Dunes, within walking distance of the beach, Tennis and Pickleball Center and the Jones Clubhouse. The PD General Store has been a true, Hilton Head institution since 1979, receiving numerous awards including “Hilton Head's Best General Store” and “Hilton Head's Best Fried Chicken.”

For breakfast at the G-Store, start your day with melt-in-your-mouth biscuits, croissants, toast, bagels or English muffins, delicious blueberry and banana nut muffins, breakfast sandwiches with sausage links & patties or bacon, scrambled eggs and cheese, biscuits with sausage gravy, regular and cheese grits, hash browns, sinfully delicious donuts and mouth-watering cinnamon rolls baked fresh daily.

Missing your coffee on the porch mornings? Lucky for you the PD General Store now has its own breakfast blends available in K-cups and ground coffee — not to mention one of the island's best selections of long and short-sleeve t-shirts, hats and other Palmetto Dunes and Hilton Head Island swag. Among the additional services and products available at the PD General Store are propane refills, frozen bait, cigars, cigarettes and other tobacco products, beer and wine, including a dozen different local craft beers.

Hilton Head Social Bakery at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

And last but certainly not least, directly across William Hilton Parkway from Palmetto Dunes, at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, you can enjoy breakfast with quaint, outdoor seating, while soaking up gorgeous waterfront views overlooking the harbour at Hilton Head Social Bakery.

In the mornings, the bakery offers an open-style coffee bar with Fair trade-organic coffee, tea and specialty lattes. Locally owned by award-winning chef Philippe Feret from Manhattan, who was previously the executive chef of the renowned “Windows On The World” (Twin Towers) Restaurant, Tavern On The Green, The Regency Hotel and many others, Hilton Head Social Bakery features a variety of classic American-style baked goods with a twist of French flair.

Chef Philippe's bakery displays an amazing selection of savory pastries such as Brioche, warm flaky croissants, bread, cookies and more. Custom-order cakes are available as well. Hilton Head Social Bakery dishes up a warm atmosphere with contemporary, rustic décor — including wall paneling and woodwork crafted from reclaimed American Chestnut barn wood from the mid 1800's.

“We're here to make Hilton Head Social Bakery a perfect spot for friends, family and visitors on this beautiful island,” says Chef Philippe, who is originally from Normandy, France, and grew up working in his father's bakery in Paris. “We love the people here on Hilton Head. It's wonderful to be a part of this community.”

Come by and visit Chef Philippe at Hilton Head Social Bakery, and enjoy a cup of joe and a fresh-baked croissant for a taste you will never forget. Or, come see us at Big Jim's or the General Store, or any other of our savory breakfast offerings throughout the resort.

Getting around Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove is easier than ever. You can enjoy a pleasurable bike ride along the resort's 5 miles of paved pathways and safely across to Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina. Or, you can take the Palmetto Dunes Buggy, a free, seasonal, on-demand service that enables guests to skip the traffic and leave their car behind, while they visit the beach, golf courses, Tennis and Pickleball Center, restaurants and shops at Shelter Cove Harbour from mid-April through mid-September.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your stay at Palmetto Dunes — and don't forget your breakfast along the way.
